How to summarize a vacation to the beach?
- We swam. We tanned. We relaxed. We rode the waves on boogie boards/rafts. We ate sandy food J. We swam some more. We relaxed some more. We tanned some more. We swam some more. We walked/ran. We shopped. We played cards every night (I won’t say who won.every.single.night, because that would be boastful on my part). We ate wonderful seafood. We swam and tanned and relaxed. Did I mention we swam and tanned and relaxed?
In a word, the trip to Port Aransas was fun. We had great company with our awesome friends, LaBrett , Gene and their family. We drove out early on Thursday (last week) which went by pretty fast. It was only about 7.5 hours down there. When we arrived to our somewhat final destination, we took the ferry across to the little island. It was a cake walk finding the cottage where we were going to stay, mainly because everything is in close proximity and LaBrett had been there many times before so she knew where everything was. It was a quaint little cottage, cute and colorful. I called them the skittle cottages. Every structure in Port A was colorful and lively but our cottages were bright and rightfully deemed skittle cottages by me. We got the bright @$$ pink one. Looked great against my tan.

Our first day was spent walking around the little island, checking out some of the shops and getting acquainted with the area we were going to be in for a few days. That night, we ate at a place called Moby Dick’s. Awesome, awesome, awesome Mahi Mahi. I was told to be sure and have some seafood while we were there to which I replied, duh! And the fish did not disappoint. That night was a chillin’ night, unpacking somewhat and getting our rooms situated.

The next few days were spent on the beach. We packed a cooler, daily. We had our towels, chairs, canopy, sunscreen, boogies boards, etc. It took some time to get ready for the beach but once we were there, it was a blast. LaBrett and I took rafts out to the ocean and looked like complete idiots riding the waves. I don’t think either one of us cared though. It was too much fun and I know the guys enjoyed seeing us getting flipped over and over and over…..

The days kind of bled into one another. So much so, that I really didn’t even know what day of the week it was. From what I understand, that is a good thing. I do know that one of the days we drove into Corpus Christi to check out some of the sites there. We went to the Aquarium and oooohd and aaaaahd over the Lexington. Very awesome. The fighter jets on deck were amazing, even from a distance. We ate at a place called Pier 99. I could not help myself…I ordered the Mahi Mahi. I know, I know. I had it at Moby Dick’s too, but it was even better at this place. It was a little hole in wall restaurant that served some amazing food. Those are truly the best places.

Many of our meals were cooked right at the cottage. We ate our lunches on the beach, hence the mention of sandy food in my summary. Cooking our own meals was the most economical and smart way. I think our best meal was the last dinner we had before heading home. We spent a few hours at the beach that day and came back pretty famished. LaBrett and Gene found a place that sold shrimp by the pound and these shrimp with humungo. I mean, really really huge. They grilled them, along with some chicken and corn on the cob. It was to die for.

Some of the highlights:
- Sharing this experience with our wonderful friends.
- Kicking everyone’s butt, nightly, playing canasta with adult beverage in hand. I know I said I would not boast but if you knew Hunter’s family at all, they play cards to the death and I die every single time. So, winning for me was awesome simply because it is rare. There. I did it. I boasted.
- Swimming with my daughter in the ocean.
- Finding a store that was selling bathing suits for BOGO. (yes, that is a highlight because good suits are dang expensive)
I know there are other highlights…and I am certain they will come to me the moment I post this. So, maybe the slideshow of pics will help to bring some of the highlights to light, so to speak.
