Seems silly to go on and on but…..

For as long as I can remember, I have never truly gotten that fully rested feeling after sleeping. I wake up numerous times during the night for no real reason. Sometimes I can get back to sleep, other times not so much. And no matter how many hours I have slept total, I typically wake up groggy, as do most people. For me, that grogginess would subside a little but there was always a twinge of it that stayed with me throughout the day. I know many people that feel like this and that is the reason I am posting about it. I think I may have found the ‘cure’ for me. Not saying that what works for me will be work for everyone and what works for me may or may not be attainable because there is an expense involved. Really, it is more of an investment. To me, to be able to wake up feeling refreshed and not like a zombie all the time would be worth it.

So, here’s the deal. My husband was out of town on business for a week. We were chatting through IM one night and he mentioned how odd the mattress felt when he first sat down on the bed. He said he sort of just sank into it. I jokingly said, maybe it is a temper-pedic. He pulls up the sheet and sure enough, it was a temper-pedic. He then started to talk about his first few of nights of sleep and how when he woke up he just popped out of bed and felt completely rested. Let me add that Hunter does not just pop out of bed. Been married to him for 14+ years and he has hit snooze for as long as I can remember (while mumbling something incoherent). He didn’t really put 2 and 2 together until I made the crack about the hotel having temper-pedic on all their beds.

• I would like to add that his company is no slouch! It is not like they are putting him up at a pay by the hour motel or something. But I was still surprised that this hotel would outfit their rooms with temper-pedic mattresses. They are not cheap. But, I digress….

Anyhow, he got to thinking about the last few nights of sleep and attributed it to the mattress. The true test came when he got back home and slept on our mattress. He slept fine, but woke up feeling sort of sluggish. My thoughts were that it was all in his head. He somehow psyched himself out thinking the temper-pedic made a world of difference. So, a couple more nights of sleeping in our bed and he was convinced that his restful night’s sleep while out of town was due to this wonderful mattress he discovered. He talked about it for a week. He talked to me, his co-workers, friends, etc! He researched it to death and talked some more to his co-workers that had them and asked their opinion. Everyone he talked to gave it rave reviews as well. Never mind that he was already sold on it.

Friday rolls around and Hunter says that we must go to Mattress Firm or Mattress Giant (I forget where we were actually) so I can see what the fuss is all about. We walk in and the sales lady could not have been cooler. Loved her. I made my way over to the temper-pedic’s, set my purse down, kicked off my shoes and climbed into bed….

OMG (yes, I just OMG’d on my blog post)

This bed was a.m.a.z.i.n.g.

At first, I could see what Hunter was talking about when he said it was odd when you first sit down. There is no bounce back when you sit down, lay down, roll over, etc. Obviously, because they are not spring loaded beds. But to not have that bounce back was a bit different. After all, I have only slept in beds with coils in them so I was accustomed to that bounce back. Regardless of the no bounce back, this bed was simply amazing. You sink into the mattress and it just conforms to your body. My concern was would the materials break down over time and cause the mattress to get that Homer Simpson Butt Couch Sag thing going on? Sales lady said no way, does not happen. Well of course she is going to say that, she wants to make a sale. But then I have Hunter on the other side debunking all of my concerns as well. With all of his research and questioning of co-workers, he found her statements to be true. In fact, I think he knew more about them than she did. Anyhow, I went back to the bed and lay down as if I were going to go to sleep. I loved it. I had to have it. So, we bought it and had it delivered on Saturday. My first night of sleep in this bed was awesome. I slept so good and felt great when I woke up. My only hang up is the pillow. We got two free temper-pedic pillows with our purchase and as awesome as this pillow is, I can’t really squish it. I will give it a couple more nights but I have a feeling I will be going back to a (gasp) regular pillow. But the mattress overall, if I had 4 thumbs, I would raise them all. I have never felt better. Do I still wake up a few times during the night? Yes, but the sleep I am getting is more restful. I can tell a difference already.

Seems silly to go on and on about a mattress. I guess if you are one of the lucky ones that sleeps soundly every night, then you either have a temper-pedic or you are just lucky that you sleep soundly regardless of what you sleep on!

The other benefit to us getting a new bed is so does our daughter. Our poor 13 year old (tall) daughter has been sleeping in a day-bed for years now. She has long out grown it and was overdue for a bigger bed. The Sealy mattress we have been sleeping on is not too old, there is no sag and it still has a lot of life left. So, we bought a queen size frame and I picked up a comforter and bed skirt to outfit her new bed. I was lucky to find the exact same colors she had on her day-bed because she loves loves loves her room! The only thing missing now is a headboard which we will make ourselves. The plan is to make a padded headboard. I have been researching the how to’s on it and it seems pretty simple enough and the finished product always looks so nice. In the meantime, here is a picture of her room with a bed in it that is fit for a Queen (no pun intended). Her room even looks better. The day-bed really didn’t fit the room. It was too small and too…girly…for lack of a better term. And my daughter is NOT girly!

By the way, she loves her bed, loves all the room she has and is happy her toes don’t hang off the end.
